Charity Dance

in aid of “Romanian Aid Distribution”

“to provide relief to the elderly, vulnerable and needy people of Romania by distribution of aid and to advance the Christian faith by promoting, supporting and encouraging Romanian Churches”.

 

All proceeds of the dance and raffle after the deduction of costs shall be donated to the above named charity

 

This dance is dedicated to the memory of David Turnock, long-time member of the Leicester RSCDS Branch

The charity “Romanian Aid Distribution” has been selected by Marion in recognition of the many years’ dedicated involvement, by David and herself, in helping Romanian people.

 

David’s involvement with Eastern Europe began in 1967 when he and Marion first travelled to Romania, by steam train, from their home in Aberdeen. David, later a Professor of Geography at Leicester University, continued his travels, research and writing throughout the very difficult years of Communism.

 

After the Revolution in 1998, David and Marion were able to drive their car to Romania. Liaising closely with their Romanian friend and colleague Nicolae Muica, they worked with priests and medics of the Pătârlagele Villages of the Buzău region to identify areas of particular need.

 

Supported by friends in Leicester, they organised charity dances for many years, taking money, clothes, medicine and many other useful items to the very needy people of Romania.
