LEICESTER BRANCH RSCDS             REPORT OF AGM 2008

With Marion in the chair, thirty eight members gathered for the 2008 AGM.  We had lots of apologies which means that almost all of the 61 folk on our roll responded to the call one way or another!

Marion began by mentioning the one great sadness of the past year which was the loss of Ian Munro, a lovely man. Our heartfelt sympathies go to Anne and her family. Many of us had attended Ian’s funeral.

The officers’ reports contained lots of thanks to all those who work in every way to keep the branch ticking over. Special thanks to retiring committee members Brian and Tony and Hello to the new ones Greg and John and Keith O.  Keith O and Keith E are swapping jobs, Keith O is the new treasurer and Keith E is the new Minutes Sec.

The branch year was gone through with its successes and happily averted near disasters, such as our caterer cooking food for 60 odd at the day schooL on ONE cooker and the Ball almost having drums and keyboard only!l All events had gone smoothly after initial hic-ups and the Dem. team got  ( ate) through umpteen Burns’ Suppers with special help on the pudding front!

Oh, yes, and this year at the meeting, we made sure that the gas was switched off - remembering how last year, the assembled company was quite stupified before it was realised that the kettle had boiled over and extinguished the lighted gas.

One item of special note was that H.Q. having upped our subs. to £15, our branch dues are down to only £1. Therefore Annual Subs. will now be £16 due to the treasurer’s creative accounting which had so pleased the auditor that the all the Accounts were ratified  and as such, signed, sealed, delivered, proposed and accepted.

We hope that the 7 new student beginners will return and all 4 classes will continue in September.

The great branch “how to store the music wars” have begun.  More of this anon. For up to date previous history and where we are the noo  – see our web site!!

We hope to have music at 4 out of 5 of our socials starting with last April when we had Ian Slater.  Making October our only recorded music event. August, to Andrew Lyon, December to Ken Martlew. Into 2009 with Ian in February and April was going to be Phill Jones but stop press news is that he got double booked and we are looking for a replacement!!

So, the jolly meeting closed, dancing followed and a good time was enjoyed by all!.
